Serie A giants AC Milan have reportedly threatened to bench highly-rated young goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma if he fails to sign a new deal.
The 18-year-old is widely regarded as one of, if not the best, young goalkeepers in world football but his current contract expires next summer and both Manchester clubs are rumoured to have shown an interest in bringing him to the Premier League.
However, according to the Corriere della Sera (via Calciomercato), the Rossoneri have issued Donnarumma with an ultimatum, telling agent Mino Raiola that the two sides have to agree to terms by June or Donnarumma will spend a year sitting in the stands.
The Rossoneri are already said to have made a contract offer of €3million, up from the €250,000 he currently earns, for a player who broke into the Milan senior side at just 16 years of age.
Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid are also said to have shown an interest in the player while his agent has sent Milan a number of threats via the media, stating that he wanted his client to play for a great club, not wait “for Milan to be great”.
