Addicks defence down to bare bones

Defender Sam Sodje starts a four-match ban after being shown his second red card of the season during the 2-2 Boxing Day draw with Swindon, and striker Deon Burton sits out a one-game ban after also seeing red late on.

With Christian Dailly struggling with illness, Kelly Youga out with a knee injury and Frazer Richardson still missing with hamstring trouble, Parkinson is desperately short at the back.

Up front, David Mooney is sidelined with a knee injury but Parkinson can call on Akpo Sodje, Chris Dickson, Leon McKenzie or Izale McLeod.

The Addicks boss is also boosted by the return of winger Lloyd Sam from his one-match ban.

Parkinson said after the match against the Robins at The Valley: “We could do with a boring 1-0 win in the next game considering in our last match we drew 4-4 with Millwall and finished here with nine players.

“We’re really down to the bare bones for Monday so it’s time to roll our sleeves up and give that extra 10-15% against Brentford.

“This is another challenge thrown at us and we’re going to meet it head on.”
