Watford defender Nathan Ake is aiming to get “back to winning ways” against Newcastle United this weekend and end a five game winless run.
The Hornets defender returned to the side on Monday night in the 1-0 defeat against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium, having missed the last three games through suspension.
Quique Sanches Flores’ side have now lost their last four games, but Ake believes the game against Newcastle at Vicarage Road is a “good opportunity” to claim all three points.
Speaking to Hornets PlayerHD, Ake said: “The result was not the best, the way we played wasn’t either, but to get back playing and get my fitness is good.
“It wasn’t that long ago, but you don’t have the game rhythm so it was nice to feel that again.
“You always feel a little bit off the pace, but when you play every Saturday you feel match fit.
“When you miss three weeks it’s tough and I felt it a little bit, but I’m glad I’m back and I can continue.
“We’ve lost four times in a row but we’re in a good position. We want to get back to winning ways and Saturday will be a good opportunity to do that.
The on-loan Chelsea full-back made his Premier League debut for the Hornets in the reverse fixture in September, coming on as a substitute in a 2-1 lead at St James’ Park.
And the 21-year-old is hoping to replicate the result and claim all three points this weekend.
“I came on for the last 15 minutes away at Newcastle and we won an important game, so hopefully it will be another important three points,” he added.
“They have some new players, but every game is different. They could line-up different, you never know, so you prepare as normal.
“They have big threats up front, they have Jonjo Shelvey as well who is a good player in midfield. They will be strong throughout, but we will analyse them well.”
