Alexander ambition enticed Ryan

The 26-year-old rejected a chance to remain with the Spireites and elected to move back to the north west and link up with the ambitious Cod Army.

Chesterfield claimed the deal they offered Ryan was similar to the terms on the two-year deal he penned at Highbury but the midfielder has spoken about how Alexander helped convince him.

“I came up to Fleetwood on Monday and met the gaffer,” he told the club’s official website.

“We spoke at length and he showed me around the stadium and the new training ground.

“He sold the club to me and I am delighted to now be a Fleetwood Town player. I am happy everything is all sorted and I can’t wait for the start of pre-season.”

After six promotions in 10 seasons, Fleetwood achieved a respectable 10th-place finish in their maiden campaign in the third tier of English football.

However, the sky remains the limit for the club and Ryan believes they are an attractive proposition.

“This is a very ambitious football club,” he noted.

“The manager explained what direction the club is moving in and I want to play a part in that.”
