Harry Kane has backed Tottenham team-mate Dele Alli to learn from his red card against Gent after admitting the player “feels like he’s let us all down a bit”.
The England midfielder was sent off for a disgraceful challenge on Brecht Dejaegere to leave Tottenham with 10 men for most of the second leg.
And the tackle was to prove costly as the Belgian’s held on for a 2-2 draw to secure a 3-2 passage into the last 16.
Kane, however, hopes that Alli, 20, will learn from his mistake.
“Dele will learn from this,” Kane said. “Obviously in European football when tackles like that go in you are more likely to get a red card.
“He is obviously gutted and feels like he has let us down a bit, but Dele has been great for us this season. We fought hard for him to turn it around.
“It is something he will learn from and get experience from for the future.”
