Carlo Ancelotti (r): No Liverpool approach

Carlo Ancelotti says he won’t return to football until next season after all-but ruling himself out of the running for the Liverpool job.

The 56-year-old Italian has been linked with the Anfield vacancy following Sunday’s dismissal of Brendan Rodgers.

Ancelotti is currently on a break from the game having been sacked by Real Madrid, and alongside Jurgen Klopp, has been touted as a leading candidate for the job.

And with former Borussia Dortmund coach Klopp expected to be appointed in the next 48 hours, Ancelotti has stated that he is still taking ‘time to rest’ and won’t return to management until next season.

Ancelotti said: “I want to take my time to rest, but next season I am ready.

“I enjoy my time now but, of course, I want to come back to manage – to work – because it is my passion.”

Klopp has long been linked with a move to Merseyside and he is likely to be a popular appointment with fans.
Former Reds midfielder Dietmar Hamann says this is crucial for any new manager at Anfield, saying: “At Liverpool, it is pretty important the fans take to you and they will take to him from day one. “

“He will interact with them, he will try to be one of them and that’s why I see it being a pretty successful partnership.

“He would be a very good appointment, he would certainly be my choice out of the managers who are in the running for the Liverpool job because he has got a passion and a love for the game that would fit in well.”
