Andreas Pereira makes his mind up on Man Utd future

Andreas Pereira says he will look to leave Manchester United permanently this summer if he cannot make it into Jose Mourinho’s first team.

The 22-year-old midfielder has enjoyed a year-long loan spell at Valencia this season, but he has no intention of doing the same again next season.

Pereira wants his future resolving one way or the other this summer and with Michael Carrick due to retire at the end of the season and Marouane Fellaini set to leave on a free transfer he may well be looking at challenging for a place in Mourinho’s first team.

The Brazilian U23 player, who regularly keeps in contact with Mourinho, has made 28 appearances for Valencia this season, scoring once and providing five assists and he is hopeful he will be given a chance to stake his claim this summer.

The Telegraph claim Juventus are among a number of clubs who have been interested in signing him, while Valencia are interested in a permanent move for Pereira, who is contracted to United until the end of next season with the option of another 12 months.

“The manager will see me in a different light if I come back from Valencia with a good report card,” Pereira told Sport/Foot.

“I’ll then change status more easily than if I continued to simply try and get a break as a homegrown talent.

“The Manchester United technical staff follow me closely. We speak on the phone regularly or we send each other messages on WhatsApp. I also communicate with Mourinho.

“I dreamed of playing for Manchester United, and I still do. I’m still under contract there. The staff now see that I can hold my spot at Valencia, that I’m at the required level.

“My future at Valencia depends on Manchester United. All the options remain open, but I don’t want to be loaned again. I’ve shown what I can do.

“This summer, I want clarity. I want to be able to stay at a club for two to three years in order to build something.”
