The Dons’ campaign has tailed off in recent weeks with Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Bury making it seven games without a victory.
They lie in 15th place with one game left, at home to relegated Cheltenham, but Ardley is already planning for next term.
“I want to send the fans home happy, even if that’s with a scrappy 1-0 win,” he said.
“The team I’ve put together don’t know how to do that and I have to take responsibility.
“I will work my socks off to put together a team capable of promotion next season and that will always be what I am trying to achieve.”
