Lyon defender Samuel Umtiti, who has been attracting admiring glances from Arsenal and Chelsea, would be open to a summer move to Newcastle, according to his agent.
The Newcastle Chronicle claim the Magpies are readying a £10million move for the 22-year-old once the transfer window reopens and assuming the club avoid relegation from the Premier League.
But Steve McClaren’s side reportedly face competition with Arsenal and Chelsea among the clubs also competing for his signature.
French outlet FootMercato linked the Gunners with the young centre-half last summer, while the Telegraph report the Blues are also interested.
And now his agent and brother Yannick admits he would be open to a move to England and would consider St James’ Park as a potential destination.
The representative told France Foot 01: “I was contacted in recent weeks by English agents who discussed the idea of Newcastle.
“But honestly, not a single concrete offer has been made at this point. We would consider an offer from Newcastle and the interest of other clubs who will eventually position themselves this summer.”
