Liverpool are reportedly growing in confidence that they can land Jack Wilshere on a free transfer at the end of the season.
The England midfielder has enjoyed something of a renaissance at Emirates Stadium this season, but with with his contract due to expire in the summer, he has suddenly found himself a man in demand once again.
With his long-term injury issues seemingly behind him – the player has admitted he had made two serious changes to his lifestyle to aid his fitness – the Gunners do seem happy to extend Wilshere’s contract beyond this season.
However, it is widely reported they have only offered him a reduced deal from his current £90,000-a-week due to his injury-related history.
As such, The Sun say that Liverpool have been in touch with his agent to inform him they will match his current contract if he follows former team-mate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and moves to Merseyside.
The paper reckons Wilshere could be tempted to make the move too, given the way Jurgen Klopp has given Oxlade-Chamberlain’s career a new lease of life by working under the German at Anfield.
