Barcelona are considering a summer move for Ricardo Rodriguez and would reportedly prefer the Wolfsburg full-back than another target, Matteo Darmian.
The Spanish club are in the market for a wing back and had been considering Darmian, the 26-year-old defender who signed for Manchester United last summer.
But Barca have made two enquiries to Wolfsburg to see what it would take to sign Rodriguez, with Luis Enrique favouring a move for the 23-year-old left-back, according to reports in the Daily Mail.
Arsenal have also been linked with Rodriguez, who enjoyed a decent tournament for Switzerland at Euro 2016.
But Barcelona do also have versatile Italy star Darmian in their sights too and could move for him should they fail to persuade Wolfsburg to sell them Rodrguez.
Darmian missed the decisive spot-kick on Saturday night that saw Italy knocked out of the European Championship in the quarter-finals by Germany.
Gunners legend Thierry Henry, however, backed Darmian to come back after the miss, instead laying the blame of two more of Italy’s spot-kick villains for their elimination.
Henry said: “We’ll always remember the miss by Darmian, but if I’m Italian I will think of the run up of [Simone] Zaza and [Graziano] Pelle saying to the goalkeeper that he’s going to dink it.
“Why are you doing this? They didn’t even hit the target. They are the ones I’m going to remember.”
Darmian signed for United from Torino for £12.7million last summer, but it remains unsure if he figures in Jose Mourinho’s plans amid reports he could be sold by the club.
