Arsenal are reported to be putting together a new contract for Hector Bellerin to repel interest from Barcelona.
The right-back has established himself in Arsene Wenger’s first XI and his impressive performances last season have attracted the attention of the La Liga champions.
Bellerin came through the ranks at Barca’s La Masia academy and with Dani Alves leaving the club this summer, the Catalans have been linked with a swoop for their former youngster.
But, according to the Daily Mirror, Arsenal “already have wheels in motion” to secure Bellerin to an improved deal, with the 21-year-old’s current contract due to expire in 2019.
Barca sporting director Robert Fernandez said last week that the club was “not planning any situation” with Bellerin, who was also described as a “fantastic player”.
Fernandez then also admitted that players who are already well educated in the Barca style would always be a priority.
“To know how to play in Barcelona defensively is very difficult,” he said.
“You have to give importance to these players.”
