Arsenal are ready to rival Fiorentina for the signing of highly-rated Santos striker Gabriel Barbosa, according to reports in Brazil.
The 19-year-old striker has been attracting rave reviews this year and called up by Brazil for their ill-fated Copa America campaign, which ended in a humiliating group stage elimination.
The player has already been the subject of a £25million approach from Fiorentina – and now reports claim the Gunners are ready to move for the player after missing out on their No.1 target, Jamie Vardy.
ESPN Brazil claim Wenger has now turned his attention to the man nicknamed ‘Gabigol’ to give him further options up front.
The 19-year-old recently revealed he has offers and, while he would be very interesting in joining one of Europe’s top clubs, he is also reluctant to leave his hometown right away.
He said: “Yes, I have offers from some of the big clubs in Europe that interest me, but that is for my parents and my employers but I am happy at Santos.
“That will sort itself out in time
“Santos is my home, but we will make a calm decision.
Santos has been a haven for producing sensational talent over the years, with Pele spending the majority of his career at the club, while the likes of Neymar, Robinho, Diego, Elano and Felipe Anderson have also been come through their ranks.
