Aston Villa are competing with Newcastle to sign Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford, according to reports.
Bamford is expected to leave Chelsea this summer and a Championship club appears the most likely destination after failing to impress on loan at Crystal Palace and Norwich last season.
And according to the Daily Express, both Villa and Newcastle are interested, although another loan move may be on the cards with Chelsea holding out for £10million for the 22-year-old.
The report suggests Villa are favourites to land the England Under-21 international, as new owner Tony Xia has promised the recently appointed Roberto di Matteo the funds to try ensure the club bounces back to the Premier League at the first attempt.
Di Matteo is close to appointing Steve Clarke as his assistant manager, and the duo hope their Chelsea links can help land Bamford ahead of the Magpies.
