Former Birmingham City boss Steve Bruce has been appointed as the new manager of Aston Villa, the Championship club have confirmed.
The 55-year-old, who left Hull City in July following a row with the club’s owners, replaces Roberto Di Matteo at Villa Park after a disappointing start to the season that sees Villa ten points shy of the play-off spots.
“It is one of the big clubs of this country,” said Bruce. “To be given the opportunity to manage it is terrific.
“I relish the challenge of trying to take the club where it wants to go and needs to be – and try to turn around the misfortune we seem to have had over the past few years.”
Bruce, who becomes Aston Villa’s sixth boss including caretakers in the last year, starts his tenure with a game at home to Wolves on Saturday, with a highly-anticipated local derby against former club Birmingham scheduled for October 30th at St Andrews.
