Atletico Madrid will make a move to re-sign former striker Diego Costa from Chelsea this week despite their transfer ban, according to reports.
The Daily Mirror claims that the La Liga side are planning to table a bid of £26million with further add-ons to become active depending on his performances.
The Spain international joined the Blues from Atletico in the summer of 2014 after they met his £32million release clause and it looks unlikely that Chelsea will recoup their money.
Costa is now surplus to requirements at the London club after Antonio Conte made it clear to him that he won’t be in his plans for next season.
The 28-year-old has reportedly had offers from China in the past but a move to the Far East is understood to be less appealing to Costa.
Atletico are banned from any transfer dealings until January after the Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld FIFA’s sanctions against the club.
With Costa thought to be keen on the move, Atletico will try to convince Chelsea to keep the Brazilian-born Spaniard until the beginning of next year.
