Atletico Madrid defender Filipe Luis is sure Manchester United target Antoine Griezmann will stay at the club.
Griezmann, 26, continues to be linked with a big-money move away from Spain and after he scored Atletico’s goal in the Madrid derby at the weekend he claimed he “wasn’t ruling anything out” regarding his future.
That response has not upset Luis though and he is sure the 23-goal striker will be staying in the Spanish capital.
“We haven’t said anything to him,” said Luis. “We are sure he will stay, he’s a genius. To see him every day, the talents that he has growing day by day, he’s a unique player, he gives you this genius.
“He has conquered me, and every day more so. Each game that goes by he shows me it’s not strange that he has fought for the Ballon d’Or [coming third behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi], because he is a different player.
“In a Madrid derby week, there are a lot of rumours.”
The France international is contracted until June 2021 and is believed to have a release clause in his contract set at €100million.
The Manchester Evening News cited “sources close to the Frenchman” and suggested a deal was close.
Griezmann has been guarded about his future though and claimed all the speculation was “tiring”.
