Aubameyang: Linked with January transfer to Chelsea

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has arrived at London Colney ahead of his record move to Arsenal.

The Gunners have struck a club record €65million (£57.2m) deal for the Gabon striker and look certain to seal his signature before the transfer window closes on Wednesday evening.

The 28-year-old was videoed arriving at Dortmund Airport with his family on Tuesday afternoon with the two clubs finally having settled on a deal.

It’s understood Arsenal will pay Dortmund £52million up front, with a further £5.2m in add-ons – a transfer which will see the Gabon striker become Arsenal’s most expensive ever signing, overtaking the £52.5m purchase of Alexandre Lacazette during the summer.

Negotiations between the two clubs have been ongoing for weeks and it’s still believed Dortmund will only sanction the sale once they have brought in a replacement. A deal for Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi remains their preference – but the Blues remain reluctant to sell until they have brought in a replacement of their own.

It is understood that the transfer will go down to the wire to due other deals being linked with the move, though Aubameyang is expected to undergo a medical while he is in London regardless of what happens elsewhere.

It was claimed on Monday night that Aubameyang had already chosen the No 14 shirt at Arsenal, recently vacated by Theo Walcott, and will be paid £180,000 a week in wages – making him the Gunners’ top earner.

The potential capture by Arsenal has been strongly endorsed by Huddersfield boss David Wagner, who was still working at Dortmund under Jurgen Klopp when the player first arrived at the Westfalenstadion

“He will be top class. He is a top-class striker, goalscorer – he has everything,” said Wagner.

Pierre Emerick Aubameyang: Target for Man United

“The club who will sign him can be very happy for sure. I really like this player.”

When asked about whether he could tempt a player of Aubameyang’s quality to the Terriers, he stated: “I am not a dreamer! I do not waste my energy and time with something that will never happen.”
