Jordan Ayew says Aston Villa will start winning games if they continue to show the fight and passion they put in against West Ham on Boxing Day.
Remi Garde’s rock-bottom Midlanders are facing an increasingly tough battle for Premier League survival after registering just one win in 18 top-flight games, with that coming on the opening day.
They did, however, show some stomach for the fight in coming from behind to secure a hard-earned draw with West Ham at Villa Park.
Ayew was again the goal-scoring hero for the Villans, netting his third goal in five games from the penalty spot to give Garde something to build on ahead of Monday’s clash with fellow strugglers Norwich City.
The £8.4million signing from Lorient told AVTV: “We have to continue like this, things are changing bit by bit. We’re going to win games if we continue playing like this, there’s no doubt.”
Villa are nine points from safety but face Norwich and second-bottom Sunderland in the next two games, with Garde admitting they need at least three of the six points available.
The Villa manager said: “I think we definitely have to win one of these two.
“It will be difficult because we are fighting against teams not in a good position too.
“I would like to add the spirit within the dressing room, it is much better now. The energy in the group is much better than a few weeks earlier.
“It will probably help us to have this kind of performance more regularly.”
