On-loan Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli is “desperate” to stay at AC Milan but “does not merit” a permanent deal, according to the club’s CEO Adriano Galliani.
Balotelli, on a season-long loan at the San Siro, has scored only three goals in 17 appearances for Milan and could be set for a summer return to Merseyside if he does not improve on that record.
Galliani said: “We really like Mario, but he has to convince us to earn a permanent deal.
“Mario is feeling well. He is desperate to stay here at Milan. But like I have said before, he does not merit a permanent deal at the moment.”
Balotelli, who will have two years left on his Liverpool contract come the summer, previously scored 30 goals in 54 appearances for the Rossoneri before his £16million switch to Anfield in 2014.
