Barcelona agree in principle to €100m summer transfer

Barcelona have agreed a deal in principle to sign Antoine Griezmann this summer, according to a report in Spain.

Spanish publication Sport, report that a deal has been put in place which will see the France striker leave Atletico Madrid for the Nou Camp for €100million.

The 26-year-old’s buyout clause was set at €200million when he penned his last contract extension last summer, but his one-year extension, which runs until June 2022 also had a depreciating release clause.

Marca recently reported that Griezmann’s buyout halved once the January transfer window passed and that means he will be available for €100million in the summer.

Manchester United targeted Griezmann last summer but he refused to move with Atletico under a transfer embargo. United then switched targets and signed Everton’s Romelu Lukaku for £75million.

Atletico have since signed Diego Costa and boss Diego Simeone recently said he would not stand in Griezmann’s way should he desire a new challenge.

Atletico chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin has not been so open regarding a transfer to their La Liga rivals.

“Atletico doesn’t want to sell Griezmann either now or in the summer,” he recently told Mega. “For us he is a very important player, who has grown a lot and we have grown up with him.”

Griezmann blasted a hat-trick yesterday in Atletico’s 5-2 win at Sevilla and he has now scored 16 goals and grabbed 10 assists in 32 games in all competitions this season.
