Midfielder Ross Barkley could leave Everton this summer in order to “save his England career”, according to reports.
The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to Spurs recently and despite those rumours cooling, a Goodison Park exit may still be on the cards.
This is according to The Sun, who claim that Barkley is now behind new signing Davy Klaassen in the pecking order and will not be Ronald Koeman’s main attacking midfielder next season.
On a personal note, Barkley wants to guarantee as much playing time as possible to ensure he is in the picture for Gareth Southgate’s 2018 World Cup squad.
Barkley’s last appearance for England was over a year ago, when he came on as a substitute in a friendly victory against Australia.
He has one year left on his deal at Everton, and Toffees’ boss Koeman told him to sign a new contract or leave this summer.
