Joey Barton will travel to Glasgow on Tuesday for a medical at Rangers, according to reports.

Barton, 33, who has been offered a new contract at Burnley, suggested on Twitter on Monday that he was heading north to continue his career.

The 33-year-old referenced the song ‘Penny Arcade’, a favourite among Rangers supporters, writing: “Tough decision but it’s now made. Onwards and upwards from here. #Rollupandspendyourlastdime.”

And now the former QPR man, who was Burnley’s player of the year, looks all set to sign for Mark Warburton at Rangers as he tweeted more farewells to Burnley.

Warburton told Sky Sports last week he was a keen admirer of Barton: “Joey is a very talented player. He’s a Burnley player still.  He’s a very talented individual. He offers the experience and maturity that we need to add to the squad.
