Bayern Munich are pondering a swoop for a reported Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal target, claims a report in Germany.
Sporting Lisbon winger Gelson Martins has been linked with the Reds and the Gunners in the past, but now Bayern are serious about luring the winger to the Bundesliga, according to Bild.
The report suggests Bayern have been watching the 22-year-old for months and they may well make a move for him in the summer.
Martins, who can play on either flank, has scored 11 times and grabbed 10 assists this season for the Portuguese club and is under contract until 2022.
Martins will, barring injury, be named in Portugal’s World Cup squad and if he impresses in Russia, Sporting are unlikely to have any problems attaining his €60million buyout clause.
In December his agent Ulisses Santos did little to dampen the speculation over his client’s future when questioned by Spanish daily Sport.
“Gelson is a player who is wanted by many clubs in the Premier League, La Liga, he is even admired by some Bundesliga sides” he said. “His future? As a professional, he must be ready for any eventuality, regardless of whether that is to stay in Lisbon or move elsewhere.”
O Jogo reported last month that Sporting were hoping to tie Martins to a new contract with an increased release clause of around £89million.
Martins scored a last-minute winner for Sporting in a 1-0 win against Moreirense last night, before being handed a second yellow card and receiving his marching orders for taking his shirt off and displaying a message on his t-shirt.
