Former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry has been named as an assistant to new Belgium coach Roberto Martinez, with more appointments to follow./strong>
Henry will be part of the backroom staff alongside Graeme Jones, who was Martinez’s assistant at Swansea, Wigan and Everton.
The announcement was made as Martinez named his first senior squad since taking the Belgium job after Euro 2016.
Martinez said on appointing Henry: “We have got very short contact time with the players. The attacking quality in our group is very rich. Henry’s experience on being able to help in growing through that situation as a team is very important.
“It is a big role from Thierry’s point of view. It’s not about Thierry coming in and solving all our problems. We are very much expecting to be hard-working through the age groups. We will all help in developing players. Thierry will be a member of that.”
