Slaven Bilic has reacted to claims that West Ham are plotting a summer move for veteran Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The Sweden forward, who has never played in the Premier League during an illustrious career, has reportedly emerged as a target for the Hammers as they bid to mark their move to the new Olympic Stadium in the summer.
Bilic admits the player – who features in our look at Europe’s top five over 32-year-old’s in the game – would be a fantastic signing for West Ham. but fears the club do not have a big enough reputation to lure the player.
Speaking to the London Evening Standard, Bilic said: “I see we have been linked next season with Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Yes, we are ambitious and we are determined to progress. To be realistic, though, we are not yet a club who those kind of players would consider.”
Bilic would certainly love a player of Ibrahimovic’s quality at West Ham, but he is staying realistic and admitting that any move for the Swedish striker is highly improbable.
Ibrahimovic is out-of-contract at PSG this summer, and there will be a big rush for his signature at the end of the season.
He is expected to move on from the Ligue 1 club, and MLS is a destination many believe he will head to, but a stint in the Premier League could excite him before a big pay day in the USA.
