Second best: Hammers players look on after conceding

Slaven Bilic says West Ham got what they deserved in the thumping 4-1 defeat at Tottenham on Sunday.

Wins at Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool had given the Hammers a reputation as a dangerous side away from home but Bilic’s team crumbled at Tottenham.

England striker scored a brace, while Toby Alderweireld and Kyle Walker added further goals, before Manuel Lanzini pulled one back late on.

“The performance matches the result. They were better than us,” the Croatian conceded.

“We just couldn’t produce on the pitch. They were more a team. They were physically quicker and stronger and better in transitions. We played a really bad game but they played a really good game and we have to give some credit for this.

“They wanted it more today than in a normal game, but we simply were not good enough to get anything out of that game.”

Despite the defeat, West Ham remain sixth in the Premier League, although could drop down to 11th should results go against them in the next round of fixtures.
