Napoli have completed the signing of Mario Rui from AS Roma, which means that Liverpool’s Alberto Moreno will not be joining the partenopei.
Moreno is surplus to requirements at Anfield ahead of the start of the new season and had been tipped to join Napoli this summer.
Indeed, the Serie A outfit had a bid for the 24-year-old rejected by the Reds and they have now turned their attention elsewhere and snapped up Rui instead.
Spain international Moreno had to play second fiddle to James Milner for the left-back spot last season and Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is said to be more than happy for the former England star to continue in that position next campaign as well.
It’s not all bad news for Moreno, however, as that could now mean Roma are chasing a new left-back after allowing Rui to leave.
The Giallorossi have previously been tipped as a potential destination for Moreno and they may now renew their interest in the former Sevilla star, having only recently dealt with Liverpool over Mohamed Salah’s Anfield switch.
