Blues swallow bitter Cyprus pill

The Blues remain unbeaten in the competition but their defensive shortcomings are under the spotlight again after they allowed minnows Apoel to snatch a last-gasp draw at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have now failed to win in three games and Carlo Ancelotti’s side suffered a shock start when Marcin Zewlakow put the Cypriots in front in the sixth minute.

But Chelsea, who made seven changes from the side that lost to Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday, stormed back with goals from Essien and Didier Drogba putting them 2-1 ahead before the interval.

But Nenad Mirosavljevic seized on some slack Chelsea play in the closing stages and ran through to score past Ross Turnbull.
