Bolton v Sunderland preview

Bolton boss Owen Coyle is hoping to be able to pick from the same squad that beat Wigan last weekend.

Coyle left out Gretar Steinsson and Fabrice Muamba altogether and picked David Wheater ahead of Zat Knight as Bolton ended a run of six successive league defeats at the DW Stadium, and he may well be tempted to stick with the same line-up.

A couple of players are battling knocks but Coyle is hopeful they will be fit while defender Marcos Alonso returned to training on Friday after eight weeks out with a broken foot.

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is boosted by the return of Phil Bardsley from a four-match ban and Nicklas Bendtner, wo was ineligible to play against parent club Arsenal last weekend.

Titus Bramble is suspended pending police and club investigations, while Craig Gordon and Fraizer Campbell (both knee) continue to work their way back to fitness with the keeper due to return to training at the end of next month and the striker likely to be missing until March.

Bolton boss Owen Coyle is hoping Daniel Sturridge and Gretar Steinsson will be available.

On-loan Chelsea striker Sturridge has missed the last two games with an ankle problem but was due to return to training on Thursday along with Steinsson (knee).

Ricardo Gardner (hamstring) could also be fit but Mark Davies (ankle) is set to miss out again while Marcos Alonso is expected to be unavailable after his involvement in a fatal car accident in Madrid.

Jussi Jaaskelainen will return in goal.

Sunderland have been dealt three fresh injury blows ahead of the trip with the news that Kieran Richardson, Michael Turner and Lee Cattermole could all miss the rest of the season.

Richardson has a stress fracture of his left fibula and he, Turner (knee) and Cattermole (back) are likely to join Craig Gordon and Fraizer Campbell (both knee), Asamoah Gyan and Danny Welbeck (both hamstring) in sitting out the final three games of the campaign.

Ryan Noble (knee) returns to the squad and Jordan Henderson (groin) has a chance, but Anton Ferdinand (hamstring) remains a doubt and Titus Bramble (knee) continues to be assessed.
