Two leading bookmakers have suspended betting on Antonio Conte being sacked at Chelsea.
Following a flurry of big-money stakes on Thursday, Betway and Paddy Power have both closed the book on the Italian being the next Premier League manager to get the boot, while SkyBet have drastically shortened his odds and now make him their favourite ahead of Slaven Bilic.
A spokesman for Paddy Power said: “It sounds like Antonio gone-te, according to our bettors at least.
“Atletico manager Diego Simeone, who recently reduced his contract with La Liga leaders, is our favourite to be next Blues boss – with Bournemouth’s Eddie Howe the leading English contender.”
The Sun reports Conte was not at the Cobham training ground on Thursday, and was instead at Stamford Bridge, though there has been no suggestions as to why he was not working with the players as per usual.
Last month it was reported that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was frustrated by their indifferent start to the season, though it was claimed he would stand by Conte and provide the Italian with a huge transfer warchest to replace the club’s ageing squad.
A week ago, Francesco Guidolin was the league’s first casualty when Swansea dispensed with his services.
