Bowyer’s options were limited in their last Championship campaign after suffering a number of defensive injuries, but the 43-year-old, who has been in charge at Ewood Park since 2012, believes his returning stars will strengthen the side.
Rovers had to play the majority of last season without defender Shane Duffy who underwent knee surgery and also missed the pace of right-back Jason Lowe down the flanks who made just 11 league starts due to a persistent foot problem.
“With our restrictions on transfers, it is vitally important that we have everybody fit and these two are almost like new signings for us,” Bowyer told the club’s official website.
A number of players have returned to training early to get themselves into good shape ahead of the first game of the season at home to Wolves.
“Quite a number of the lads have been going into training regularly over the past couple of weeks,” Bowyer added.
“It’s different nowadays – players really look after themselves in close season.”
