Brady says sorry for West Ham turmoil as board take responsibility

West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady says the Hammers’ board takes full responsibility for their predicament after issuing a public apology for the club’s problems on and off the pitch.

Ugly scenes during last weekend’s 3-0 home defeat at Burnley saw a number of supporters invade the pitch, while another angry mob confronted the directors’ box with joint owner David Sullivan struck on his glasses by a coin.

The result left David Moyes’ side just three points clear of the Premier League relegation zone, but regardless of their safety, or otherwise this season, the scenes last Saturday will be remembered for many years to come.

Using her column in The Sun, Brady explained: “Nothing is more important than ensuring our fans are able to come and support the team safely.

“We take full responsibility for the changes that need to be made to the stadium. And let me be frank. The board takes full responsibility for our predicament.

“Ultimately the table does not lie and just like the team we are judged on our position.”

She continued: “I want to put on record that the board of West Ham United would like to offer our sincere apologies to the vast majority of our supporters who turned up to support their club, lots of them with young children who sat and tried to continue to support their team.

“We are restructuring our player recruitment. This will change the way we handle transfers, giving the control to the manager and the football staff.

“Our focus now is on the team and staying in the Premier League. We have eight games to play. Getting the points we need has to be the priority.”
