Joe Gomez has hinted he will consider a loan move away from Liverpool this summer – and admits his main focus is getting regular game time under his belt.
The England Under-21 defender has endured terrible luck during Jurgen Klopp’s time at Anfield; the player suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury on the eve of the German’s arrival as boss in October 2015 and only making his return to action in January 2017.
And Gomez admits simply getting back on the field and getting regular action under his belt was the main aim for the 2017/18 season – whether that is at Anfield or elsewhere.
“The main thing is getting regular football,” he told the club’s official website.
“I just want to get back to enjoying my football and playing consistently.
“I think that’s something I’ve missed over the last couple of seasons with the injury, but now it’s all in front of me. I just have to put in the work and be prepared to do it.”
Brighton and Huddersfield are among the clubs keen on borrowing Gomez for the season, and while the player has hinted he is open to a switch, he instead opted to turn the focus back on Liverpool and what promises to be an exciting season under Klopp.
“This team, with this manager—it has all the attributes to be a top season,” he added.
“And obviously with European football this season that’s a great stage to play on. It’s just nice to be back amongst it.”
