Rashford: Became youngest England player to score on debut

The defender joined Rovers at the start of last season and featured 24 times as the club secured promotion to the Football League with a play-off final win over Grimsby.

The Newcastle youth product did enough to earn a new deal, on the day it was confirmed Andy Monkhouse and Abdulai Bell-Baggie would be leaving the Memorial Stadium as free agents.

Manager Darrell Clarke was full of praise for the 24-year-old full-back, telling the club’s official website: “Daniel is a terrific player who at times this season had to wait for his chance but I feel he grabbed his chance with both hands.

“I think he developed a lot as the season went on and went from strength to strength and we are hoping that will continue into the Football League.”
