Buffon encourages Real Madrid to give up on Man Utd star

Gianluigi Buffon believes Real Madrid have no need to try and lure David de Gea away from Manchester United in the future.

De Gea has been at Old Trafford since 2011 but has been consistently linked with a return to Madrid over the last few years, with United understood to have turned down a £60million bid from Real for the 26-year-old this summer.

The Spanish number one almost moved to The Bernabeu in August 2015, with Keylor Navas moving in the opposite direction, but the deadline-day deal collapsed.

However, Buffon believes Navas, who has won back-to-back Champions League titles with the Spanish giants, has excelled at Real and deserves to be kept faith with.

“Real Madrid have not lacked anything over the past 10 years, as they have bought the best footballers,” Buffon said in an interview with Marca.

“Keylor Navas is a great goalkeeper, despite what some say. They have won two Champions Leagues with him and he has often been important on the way to winning them.

“I don’t believe there is a need to sign, as the results have shown that they are winning as it is.”
