Rico Henry: Walsall defender linked with Tottenham

Burnley are hoping to fight off interest from several Premier League clubs to sign highly-rated Walsall defender Rico Henry, sources have told TEAMtalk.

The player was the subject of our weekly Scout report last week and has been earning rave reviews for Walsall this season and has been likened to former England defender Ashley Cole in his style of play.

The 18-year-old, who has come through the youth ranks at Walsall, has made 24 appearances for the Saddlers so far this season, and his standout performances have brought him to the attention of clubs higher up the football pyramid.

The likes of Liverpool, Tottenham, Leicester City and Championship trio Derby, Brighton and Wolves have all been credited with an interest in Henry after watching him in action on several occasions this season.

However, Burnley are ready to firm up their interest in the exciting left-back by making a move for Henry during this month’s transfer window.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche is keen to bolster his side’s defensive options as he looks to mount a bid for promotion back to the Premier League and is thought to have Henry one of his top targets.

Walsall tied Henry down to a new deal earlier this season, but they are bracing themselves for interest in the youngster before the close of the transfer window.
