Gary Cahill reportedly wants to leave Chelsea this month – but the Blues could immediately replace him with Matt Miazga.
According to Reuters, a source close to Cahill has said the 30-year-old is so worried about missing out on a place in England’s Euro 2016 side that he would welcome the chance of a move away from Stamford Bridge.
Cahill feels he may be at the “crossroads of his career”, according to the source, having played only once in the Premier League since Guus Hiddink took over from Jose Mourinho.
It is questionable whether Chelsea would feel comfortable allowing Cahill to leave this month, but reports from the United States suggest they are the club set to sign Miazga.
The 20-year-old has also been linked with Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City, but ESPN FC claims Chelsea have won the race for a player described as ‘the best defender in MLS’.
The 6ft 4in centre-back, who has less than a year remaining on his contract at New York Red Bulls, is said to have already left a US national team training camp to complete his transfer.
