Liverpool midfielder Emre Can could miss the remainder of the season after injuring his ankle in the 5-4 aggregate win over Borussia Dortmund on Thursday night.
The Germany star was replaced on 80 minutes by Lucas Leiva after apparently twisting his ankle and the 22-year-old left Anfield on crutches and with his right foot in a protective boot.
Can, who is suspended for Liverpool’s trip to Bournemouth on Sunday, will have a scan on Friday amid fears he has damaged ligaments and he may not play again this season.
The £10million recruit from Bayer Leverkusen in July 2014 has made 46 appearances for Liverpool this season and scored twice and he has been one of the mainstays of Liverpool’s midfield since the arrival of Jurgen Klopp last October.
His injury was the only sour note of Liverpool’s scintillating 4-3 victory – with the Reds twice fighting back from two goals down to progress through to the Europa League semi-finals with a last-gasp Dejan Lovren header.
