Manchester United have been linked with moves for Eden Hazard, Antoine Griezmann and Pablo Dybala, but take it with a pinch of salt.
In a new regular feature, we take a look at the day’s rumours involving Manchester United, separating the wheat from the chaff to save you the trouble…
Exclusive: Barcelona, Real Madrid, Man United and Man City set to battle for Chelsea ace (Daily Star)
The Daily Star’s headline writers should be proud of this one. Five of Europe’s elite in a transfer tug-of-war. This could be a transfer saga of the ages. Tantalisingly, they won’t even tell us who is at the centre of all this interest. The devils.
And so a click reveals it is reigning player of the year Eden Hazard. It is the reported interest of Manchester United that is particularly fascinating here as the other three clubs have previously been linked with the forward.
According to the Star, the Belgian’s relationship with Blues manager Jose Mourinho has become strained after being left out of the team, which means “Manchester United are also likely to monitor Hazard’s situation”.
Perhaps they have managed to get this information from a juicy insider source? Well not exactly, although Ed Woodward did publicly promise that United “will spend big again next summer”, so expect to see the Old Trafford outfit linked with every high profile player who could potentially be on the move. Just don’t hold your breath this will come to fruition.
Antoine Greizmann to take Van Gaal’s spending to over £300m (Daily Telegraph)
One story which continues to do the rounds regards the future of Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezman, who has been heavily linked with Chelsea as a potential replacement for Hazard.
According to the Telegraph, Mirror, Star and Metro, the Frenchman is now destined for Manchester United. All four state that reports in Spain suggest the deal is on.
The only problem being that it only seems to be the one report, which is from rumour website Fichajes. Even that states the 24-year-old is happy at the Vicente Calderon and also makes it clear if Griezmann was to leave Spain then Chelsea appears the more likely destination.
Revealed: Man Utd set to make a shock £28m January window move for Arsenal striker target (Daily Express)
Another story to feature regularly today is United’s interest in Juventus striker Pablo Dybala, a summer target for Arsenal before making the move to Turin – despite having actually been published on Friday.
Dybala has struggled to nail down a regular place in the Italian champions side, although has an impressive five goals from only six starts in all competitions.
Palermo president Mauricio Zamparini has accused Juve boss Massimilliano Allegri of “ruining” the 21-year-old, which begs the question why his value has increased since his £24million transfer.
Having shone in the 2-0 win over Atlanta at the weekend and insisting he is happy at his new club, United fans shouldn’t get too excited.
