Carragher: Moyes will be in demand and will soon bounce back

Jamie Carragher believes David Moyes will walk back into a job in the Premier League and will “easily recover” from his sacking at Real Sociedad.

The former Manchester United and Everton boss was dismissed by the La Liga club earlier this week after just a year in the job.

But despite the struggles in his last two appointments, Carragher, writing in his weekly column in the Daily Mail, believes Premier League chairmen will only remember the job Moyes did at Everton.

“Moyes will want to get back as soon as possible and I hope he doesn’t find offers drying up because of how things ended at Real Sociedad and Manchester United. If I was a Premier League chairman, I’d look at him and the only thing in my mind would be the job he did at Everton.

“Never mind the nine months at Old Trafford. Moyes, for the money and wages Everton spent over 11 years, was outstanding and the consistency was remarkable. He had them punching above their weight over a sustained period and won the LMA Manager of the Year award three times.”

Moyes ‘perfect for Villa’

He added: “He would have been perfect for Aston Villa. He would have come in and provided organisation and stability and got them climbing the table once again; all the experiences he has been through since leaving Goodison Park will have helped him improve.

“Maybe he will have to change his ways wherever he turns up, particularly in pre-season. Everton were notorious for slow starts but finishing strongly.

“He had a supportive board at Goodison who knew his methods but slow starts cost him dearly with United and Sociedad.

“This episode, though, should not mean he is lost from the Barclays Premier League. The decision of one president must not shape his career. If one man can change the trend and show that managers can fight back it is David Moyes.”
