Jamie Carragher says people have got to stop comparing Jurgen Klopp with his Liverpool predecessor Brendan Rodgers.
The former Reds centre-back and Sky Sports pundit has acknowledged that German tactician Klopp is working with a squad put together by previous incumbent Rodgers and admits he’s doing a decent job after almost three months at the helm.
“People keep liking him to Brendan Rodgers,” Carragher told Sky Sports after the 1-0 win at Sunderland. “This is nonsense. It’s not his team, it’s Brendan Rodgers’ team that was built for three years.
“So whether he (Klopp) has got a better record or not, it doesn’t matter. If he’s matching Brendan Rodgers or doing better, then he’s doing a fantastic job.
“It’s the big results he’s got, the goals, which give you hope for the future.
“Klopp will still be assessing his squad between now and the end of the season, because that’s where they need to be.”
Carragher though feels Klopp, whose men are five points behind fourth place, will face a tough assignment to get Liverpool into the top four this season.
“But the squad he’s got is not good enough for a title challenge, and to be honest I don’t think Liverpool will make the top four,” added Carragher.
