Jamie Carragher: Praise for Luiz

Jamie Carragher has criticised Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp for his poor decision-making in the League Cup semi-final defeat to Southampton.

The Reds’ season is threatening to unravel very quickly as their poor run of form continues and the former Liverpool defender turned Sky Sports pundit was left perplexed by some of the German’s choices.

“Can and Henderson, as a two, does not work,” Carragher told Sky Sports during the half-time interval.

“[You play] only one of them – it has to be Henderson.

“Unless you’re playing away at United, Chelsea, Arsenal can those two play.

“Never play the two of them together.”

Carragher then elaborated on this point after the full-time whistle blew.

He added: “I’m a massive fan of the manager but the changes have been far too slow to come.

“The teams he has picked from the start, I have not agreed with. I mentioned Can being in the team alongside Henderson and he can only play holding midfield.

“He does not have the legs to play anywhere else.

“He [Klopp] has started with those teams and is recognising his mistakes far too late.”
