Real Madrid’s Casemiro has said that his international teammate Neymar is ‘welcome’ to join him at the Bernabeu, and sees no reason why the move could not take place.
Neymar’s future at Barcelona has come under intense scrutiny in the past week, with rumours circulating that he is set to join Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain. The French side are reportedly willing to meet his €222m (£198.5m) release clause, and smash the world-record transfer fee in the process.
Despite Gerard Pique’s tweet suggesting otherwise, Neymar’s future remains far from certain, and arch-rivals Real Madrid have just received around €120m ( £107.3m) from the departures of Alvaro Morata, Danilo, and James Rodriguez, meaning they have the funds to potentially make an offer.
After his side’s preseason friendly against Manchester United, Los Blancos midfielder Casemiro suggested that if the forward wished to join him in Madrid, then he would be more than welcome as he told ESPN: “It is up to Neymar himself to decide his own future. He knows what he must do. Why could he not play here at Real Madrid? He would be welcome here with us.”
According to the report, Casemiro denied any personal insight into the saga, but said that he believed that both Neymar and his father/agent knew what they were doing:
“I haven’t spoken with Neymar, but I wish him the best. He is a great player, I admire him a lot. He knows what he is doing, behind they are all very capable, his father is a great person, who knows what he is doing.
“If he does leave Barcelona, I wish him all the luck in the world. If he stays, I also wish him all the best in the world.”
Real Madrid attempted to sign Neymar in 2013, but the forward eventually chose their rivals, Barcelona, and has scored 105 goals in 186 appearances for the club.
