Cech officially joined Arsenal on Monday and has thanked Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich for sanctioning the move after he fell behind Thibaut Courtois in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

Now the 33-year-old is planning a long career with the Gunners.

“I don’t want to speak about retirement for another seven years,” he told The Sun. “That’s my target and then I will see.

“In football you never know what’s round the corner and retirement is something I don’t plan.

“You can have a plan, but sometimes, it doesn’t turn out the way you want.

“This move is one of those things I didn’t expect – but I’m glad it happened.”
