Two Championship clubs are set to battle it out to sign Norwich prospect Jacob Murphy, according to sources close to TEAMtalk.
Reading and Preston are the two clubs vying for Murphy’s signature after the forward starred on loan at Coventry last season.
The 21-year-old has been out on loan for the last two and a half years, with spells at Swindon, Southend, Blackpool, Scunthorpe and Colchester before moving to Coventry last term.
During his time at the Ricoh Arena, Murphy scored 10 goals and notched 10 assists for the Sky Blues as they finished eighth in League One.
His impressive performances during Coventry’s unbeaten run in November also helped him become the League One Player of the Month.
Murphy said he would return to Norwich a better player after an “amazing experience” at the Ricoh.
Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph last month, Murphy said: “It’s been amazing and I wouldn’t change this experience for the world.
“It’s been a great learning curve for me and it was great to go out in style at Oldham and to finish with a good performance”
“I have been left out a bit lately so I was working my socks off to get back in the side and I have seen my performance improve in training and took it into the match on Sunday when no-one could catch me.”
Asked if he feels he’s going back a better player, he said: “One hundred per cent. I learned game by game and after a 40 game season I am going back with a lot more knowledge than when I arrived and I am looking forward to showing people how much I have progressed.”
