Chelsea are reportedly closing in on an £18million deal for Olivier Giroud as Arsenal inch towards the completion of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s transfer to the Emirates Stadium.
Gabon international Aubameyang has arrived at Arsenal after flying in from Dortmund on Tuesday afternoon.
The 28-year-old then travelled to Arsenal’s London Colney training base, and will now finalise personal terms before undergoing a medical.
Aubameyang is at the centre of a transfer merry-go-round involving Michy Batshuayi, Giroud, Arsenal, Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund.
The Gunners are understood to have agreed a £55.4million fee for Aubameyang but have had to wait for the Bundesliga side to find a replacement before they get the green light to complete the transfer.
The Daily Telegraph claims that Chelsea are now poised to seal a transfer for Giroud with Batshuayi then free to replace Aubameyang at Dortmund in a loan deal.
When asked in a press conference whether the France international would be moving to Stamford Bridge from Arsenal, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte said: “I give my opinion to the club and then they try to do their best in the transfer market.
“I can speak about specific characteristics of players and how we can improve.
“But we are talking about players of other teams and must continue to have respect.”
