Chelsea boss Antonio Conte surrenders Premier League title

Antonio Conte has conceded the title after Chelsea fell further behind leaders Manchester City at the weekend.

Chelsea fell to a damaging 1-0 defeat to West Ham on Saturday, while a day later City won 2-1 at Old Trafford to send them 11 points clear of United and a huge 14 points ahead of Chelsea after just 16 games.

Ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Huddersfield, Conte admitted that the champions had already relinquished their title.

“In 16 games when you lose four games, in my experience you are not able to fight for the title,” said Conte.

“My English is not so good, I like to see what I tell. We have lost four games in 16, in my experience is that it is impossible. Now we must be focused in the league to go game by game and do our best, fight for a place in the Champions League.”

Conte admitted he will look to make changes against the Terriers after a jaded performance at West Ham.

“It is important to find a solution for the moment and not look too far. In this case it is right to make a rotation,” said Conte.

“We worked only today with the players that played against West Ham. When you have to play after two days you have to ready and smart to prepare the game quickly and try to find the best solution for the team.

“Especially a lot of players are playing a lot of games. It means someone is a bit tired and I have to right the best solution and find the right balance.”

Speaking about the shock weekend defeat, Conte added: “The final result. The first thing for us is to change the final result.

“We dominated the game and controlled the game, shooted 19 times but we lost the game. Tomorrow we have to have a good final result.”

“I am not happy because we lost. I look at the next game, I am not happy because we lost against West Ham and this must be very clear.”
