Chelsea have reportedly started discussions over the transfer of Monaco winger Bernardo Silva.

The 22-year-old wideman is being chased by several of Europe’s big guns with Manchester United only last week being touted as leading the chase for Silva.

Mundo Deportivo claimed earlier this month that Barcelona had joined the race to sign the long-term Manchester United and Real Madrid target. And The Sun claimed United were already “talking” to Silva, who is represented by Jorge Mendes – the agent of Jose Mourinho.

Monaco, knowing that there could be an auction for Silva in the summer, are holding out for around £70million.

Silva, whose contract still has three and a half years to run, cost Monaco £13.4million from Benfica in January 2015.

The Times though states that Chelsea have now jumped to the head of the queue “as part of an ambitious plan to challenge for next season’s Champions League”.

Silva, who can play on either wing and as a No. 10, is also admired by Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, according to the report.

Pochettino is apparently keen on strengthening his attacking options but is well aware Silva may well be beyond the financial reach of the club.
