Jose Mourinho is set to drop John Terry, Diego Costa, Branislav Ivanovic and Nemanja Matic for Chelsea’s Champions League clash with Maccabi.
Mourinho confirmed on Tuesday that he was going to make “a couple of changes”, but widespread reports suggest he will make at least four.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek is expected to be handed his first Champions League start in place of Matic; Baba Rahman will replace Ivanovic; Gary Cahill will come in for Terry; Loic Remy will get a chance up front ahead of Costa.
Mourinho, however, insisted on Tuesday that nothing can be read into his selection against Maccabi as he rotates his squad ahead of Saturday’s clash with Arsenal at Stamford Bridge.
“I can make changes,” Mourinho said.
“I know the consequence of that. If I make a couple of changes in my team, instead of you saying he has a squad, he has more options, he’s looking for a new dynamic, he wants to give some chances, I know what you are going to say.
“If I leave out Azpilicueta, it’s because I have a problem with Azpilicueta. If I leave out John Terry, it’s because I have a problem with John Terry. If I leave out Fabregas, it’s because I have a problem with Fabregas.
“I cannot be worried about what you say, what you write.
“Yes, I’m going to make a couple of changes because I have to try a couple of different faces.”
